Synopsis
A rom-com in reverse where a successful business woman, Sara and her college sweetheart, aspiring musician, Jamie are convinced their friendship can weather a pain-free breakup, that is until he gets someone else pregnant.
– In development with Samson Films, Dublin and Envision Films, LA.
Sara and Jamie have been together for the past eight years. They love each other and get on like a house on fire. Sara is smart, ambitious and has a keen eye on the future. Unfortunately, Jamie doesn’t. He is a laid back musician waiting to be discovered. Sara would like to be a mother, but not to Jamie. It looks like its time for them to go their separate ways. Theirs will be the perfect break up where they part ways and still hold on their fantastic, fun loving friendship. Except it isn’t and they can’t. Jamie is still in love with Sara and still living in her apartment and not just because of the impossible Dublin housing market. To provoke feelings he believes Sara still has for him, Jamie dates someone else. Sara thinks this is progress. But when Jamie drops the bombshell that he is to be the father to the child of his fellow band member, Sue, the rug is yanked out from under the myth of their perfect break up. With the constant pull back to the comfort of their familiar, co-dependent relationship, The Perfect Break Up tracks the messy, funny, poignant and painful roller coaster ride that is the uncoupling of these two college sweethearts. Will Sara manage to stop being the man in the relationship in order to find one and will Jamie take the lead as a musician and a father.
